Some of April's Furniture Transformations and the Stories Behind Them

Because sometimes what looks like the end of a piece is really just the beginning of something better.

At Aby’s Custom Upholstery, we don’t just recover furniture, we uncover its next chapter. This year, we’ve been honored to help our clients breathe new life into pieces they loved too much to let go. Here are a few of our favorite transformations from 2025 and the stories that made them unforgettable.

🛋️ Kurt’s B&B Italia Pieces: A Modern Revival

Kurt's Eichler home is a work of art , even featured in The New York Times. But the foam in his beloved B&B Italia sectional was disintegrating, and the original covers were worn beyond repair. Rather than part with the iconic sculptural piece, Kurt trusted us with a full makeover.

We rebuilt it from the frame up. New foam covers, fresh fill, and a stunning fabric that elevated its original aesthetic. Before that success, we helped him refresh coordinating leather chairs and are now working on his dining chairs in the same luxurious textile. Cohesive, collected, and completely reimagined.

🛏️ Ha’s Sleeper Sofa: Practical, Loved, and One of a Kind

Ha’s sleeper sofa wasn’t trendy, but it was hers. A favorite for family, friends, and guests. “Nothing like it is sold today,” she told us, and we agreed. Together, we created a tailored new slipcover that fits just right, practical, elegant, and uniquely her.

We worked with her to pick the perfect fabric that brought her sleeper back to life. It’s now her favorite piece again, functional and fresh. We also created a cozy floor cushion for her son, who loves relaxing on the floor (and now has the perfect spot to do so).

🪑 Erika’s Favorite chairs: a happy twist of fate

Erika brought us a pair of chairs upholstered in a classic toile fabric she adored. The original mill had been sold, but through a bit of digging and a lot of luck, we discovered that the exact fabric was still in production under a different label.

With a perfect match in hand, we restored the chairs to their original charm. The details: from the matching tack to the original silhouette. It reminded us that when you love something, it’s always worth keeping.

🛏️ Tony’s Recliner: Built for the long haul

Tony loved his recliner sectional for its shape, support, and practicality, but the upholstery wasn’t holding up. He knew exactly what he wanted: rich, durable leather. His friend in the leather business provided the hide (we love a good Harley-Davidson connection), and we took care of the rest.

The result? A smooth, sculpted sectional with a deep, luxurious feel. One that’s not only built to last, but perfect for post-surgery rest and all the years of comfort ahead.

When a Piece Matters, It’s Worth Preserving

These are the stories that remind us: sometimes it’s not about finding something new — it’s about honoring what already works. Whether it’s a rare fabric, a shape that fits just right, or a memory tied to the seat, we’re here to help you bring it back to life.

Let’s talk about what’s worth saving in your home.
We offer phone consultations, in-home templating, and curated swatches — and yes, we work with heirlooms, icons, and everything in between.
